"Bones of a kiang"

"Bones of a kiang"

I sometimes come across the carcasses of animals in my wanderings. I am pretty pragmatic when it comes to nature, and the circle of life, but I can’t help but feel a pang of sorrow for the fallen. Maybe it is because I usually root for the underdog. Or maybe it reminds me that the clock is ticking for everyone, and one day the bell will toll for me, and more sadly, the lives of those I care about the most.
However, it is also a poignant reminder that while we still walk this beautiful planet, we must devour life’s precious gift voraciously, and pursue that which gives us meaning. Nothing else really matters, because in the end, we are but a loose assembly of atoms of the universe, and to the universe we will disperse again.
How this Kiang met its end I cannot tell. Did it die of old age? Or was it pursued by wolves right up the water’s edge, where it could run no further? What I could tell you though, is that the place it rests now is epically beautiful, and right next to where it fell, a beautiful little red plant now grows. It’s is not too much of a stretch to think that some part of that Kiang is now alive again, in the place it once called home.
