"Houses in light and shadow"

"Houses in light and shadow"

People who aren’t into photography unfailingly raise their eyebrows (and roll their eyes, if they are especially transparent!) when I tell them that my standard gameplan when I am on a shoot is to “wander about and wait for something interesting to happen”. Especially when they hear that I photograph landscapes! “What, you expect that mountain to slyly sidle off and go for a walk? Or maybe that river will decide to flow the other way?”

It is however the truth, however wonky it might seem. You walk the trail, climb that hill, cross the stream, all the while listening to what the land is telling you. Enveloped in your solitude, you hear, feel and connect with nature in a manner that I can only describe as transcendental.

And then you turn the corner, see light and shadow dancing together, gliding gracefully over the land, and in that moment, you do your part, the best you can - you make a photograph.

I also refrain from describing this whole process at cocktail parties anymore because most people think I am well on my way to completely losing it.

This photograph made it to the final round of jury selection at the 2024 International Photography Awards and was recognized with an "Offical Selection" certificate.
